The Hartford insurance company surveyed about 2,000 workers and 500 human resource leaders in 2018 and found that only 18% of employees, and not many more HR professionals (24%), were “very confident” they could spot the signs of opioid misuse. Fewer than one in five in either group claimed to be “very knowledgeable” about how to reduce the risk of addiction.
So The Hartford, worked with Shatterproof, a national anti-drug-abuse nonprofit, to create an online course that any company can use in-house to spread information on topics including how to recognize the symptoms of substance abuse; how to start a conversation with a relative, friend, or coworker who is struggling with drug addiction; and where to find treatment.
